Acter Use Case

How the ”Green Collective” (GC) Strengthened Its Climate Justice Movement with Acter

The Challenge: Fragmentation, Risk, and Overwhelm

Before moving to Acter, GC relied on Messenger (Meta) for member engagement and coordination. While Messenger offered basic functionality, it quickly became insufficient for GC's growing needs:

  • ❌ Important information got buried in lengthy chat threads
  • ❌ Resources were hard to find and didn’t provide an overall view of ongoing initiatives
  • ❌ New members struggled to understand how to engage or what was happening
  • ❌ Security risks arose due to limited control over who accessed what information
“We couldn’t track who had access to what. People kept asking the same questions. It became chaotic — and, at times, unsafe.”

The Results

By adopting Acter, The Green Collective has strengthened their coordination, and created a safer and more effective space for their movement. Concretely, GC has experienced:

  • More engaged members: Reduced information overload and miscommunication, leading to better participation.
  • Greater autonomy and security: Working groups can manage their own activities while maintaining transparency and connectivity with the wider movement.
  • Improved security and control: With Acter, GC no longer depends on big-tech and/or US-based platforms, ensuring better protection for sensitive information.
