It isn't only mobile-first,we built it with a focus on productivity: you getting in and do what you need to do as quickly and easily as possible is more important than eyeballs-on-the-app.

🗓️ Event Calendar

Never miss an important meeting again just because you didn't look at the group chat for a day or two. With our dedicated events calendar you can easily separate those important happenings from the daily chatter. Easily track who RSVP'ed, attach relevant information and even boost the most important event (see below). As a user you can quickly see all the upcoming events of all the spaces you are in in a single view to be sure to not miss anything important.

📌 Pins

What was the key code for the garage door again? Where do we store the latest protest banners? Who do I call when the police wants to speak with the organizer? Some things are important to answer quickly in the time of need but aren't all to relevant otherwise. Our Pins-Section acts as your shared fridge or space blackboard where you can pin relevant links, short texts or upload pictures and documents for future lookup.

✅ Task & ToDo-Lists

Stay up to date on what needs to happen and who is taking care of it with space-wide shared ToDo-Lists and Tasks. We have simplified "project management" down to its core essence and started building it up for a eye-to-eye-level world again. You can give a description, due date, attachments and comments to a Task, organized in simple lists for a distraction-free overview. Anyone in the space can assign a task to themselves for the best shared transparency and sharing the work load among everyone in the team.

🚀 Boosts

Sometimes, just having things neatly organized is not enough, people still need to be reminded about them urgently. You can do that with Boosts – a highly visual social media stream (think Instagram Stories or WhatsApp Updates) of the most important things to keep in mind. It's the place to share that one thing that is important this week for your community.

Boosts are highly visual, can be flipped through quickly – allowing even super busy people to stay up to date on the most important thing – and interacted without further clicks. Via Boost Actions the space admin can link directly to the important event, pin or whatever they want the member to focus on.

Boost are also sent as push notifications to all members immediately.

Secure Chat

Communication, in groups or in DMs, is the starting kindle but also corner stone of any form of Activism or Organizing. Chats in Acter is end-to-end-encrypted with Signal-like Encryption and its messages are relayed over the decentralized, open Matrix.org protocol.

Groups Chats can be connected with your Spaces, allowing anyone in the Space to discover them easily and join them.

Organize more with bookmarks

If you are a power user, who is part of many spaces and thus has many items show on the dashboard, you can bookmark the spaces, pins, events and tasks that you need more often. If you have bookmarked spaces, we show them on the dashboard rather than a preview of the full list to keep the noise low.

Organized Spaces

Organize your Activsm groups into ever more specialized Spaces, nested as deep as you need, to ensure everyone can focus on what they need to and not be overwhelmed with irrelevant information.

As the organizing tools allow for horizontal organizing the content into more accessible, discrete objects, separated, nested Spaces allow you to cut the information vertically to reduce the noise irrelevant to what people need.

Connected Chats

Next to spaces, you can also connect any chats to a space, allowing for easy discovery, managed access and visibility.

Spaces can not only connect up and down, they can also connect horizontally. Your group is joining forces with another community on Acter to organize something together? You can connect it to both (or even more) spaces making it easy for any member of either community to discover and join those forces.

Built differently

We, at Acter, are organizer, activists and community builders ourselves. We have experienced first-hand the problems of people dropping out from activism because of information-overload, burn-out and tech fatigue and not coming back because it is impossible to catch up. At least to some degree that is because of the tools used, they are just not built for this. Too many of them care more about having as many eye balls on the app than actually helping the people to organize, Too many think in corporation-style structures rather than the eye-to-eye social context civil life happens in.

We believe in order to built a better future, we need better, modern tools that are effective and enjoyable to enable actual eye-to-eye organizing in all parts of civil society. That is what Acter is about. That's why we are building Acter together in a growing community of practitioners from all over the globe. That's why we at Acter constantly question the "industry wisdom" of how things are supposed to be done.
