Exploring Acter

Chats user guide

Creating a new chat

Start a new chat by going to the chats tab and clicking the plus icon in the top right corner. You can choose to find a single person to DM via the search bar, or 'Create a group chat'. If you want to attach the chat to an already existing space, choose 'Optional Parent Space'

Deleting a chat

Technically, you cannot delete a chat. You can choose to leave the chat, or, unlink a chat from being attached to a space. At the moment, the other people still will be able to stay in the space until they leave the space too. However, the user experience of deleting a space is currently under improvement, and will be improved soon.

Can people see the previous chat history when they join a chat?

New people joining the chat can't see previous messages because they are encrypted. This is due to security and end-to-end encryption.

Linking chats

As an admin you can link chats to to any spaces that you have the right to edit.
In the bottom of your space, click "Link Chat". A list of chats will show up, and you can link any chat that you have the rights to edit. After linking, the chat will show up in your Chats section of that space. Now your space members can see and join the chat, unless the chat is set private.

How secure are chats in Acter?

By default all chats created with Acter are end-to-end-encrypted. That means only the participants of the chat can decrypted and read the messages. No server, routing proxy or entity that can intercept the message can do anything with them. This applies to direct messages as well as group chats created with the Acter App. Find more information in our article about 🔐 Security.
