Increasing Our Support During US Aid Freeze

Jo Poutanen

🖇️ tl,dr; Acter will carry on and extends its services to any organization affected right now.

As news of the Stop Work Orders spreads, many organisations are feeling the ripple effects. Acter has also started receiving Stop Work Orders through some of our partners. While not entirely unexpected, the scale and suddenness of the cuts are a massive blow—not only to U.S.-based organizations but to all affected CSO’s worldwide doing crucial work.

Fortunately, Acter’s primary funding comes from independent small-to-mid-size funders through unrestricted grants as well as service contracts. While this means we, too, are seeing some contracts end and need to shift resources, Acter will carry on.

👉 Whether you are already using Acter or want to switch over to using the Acter App for organizing and communicating securely, we want to assure you: Acter will continue its operations.

Rather than slowing down, this moment has made it even clearer that we must divest from Big Tech platforms and build independent alternatives. The point of this order isn’t only to cut budget spending, it is about stifling dissent and taking away structures of those that are a potential threat to the new government. Civil organizing is under severe threat, and we want to extend our support to anyone affected, providing a secure space to communicate and organize:

👉  Acter remains free for anyone, allowing you to continue organizing and communicating securely independent from Big Tech

👉 Anyone can join Acter by downloading the app (https://acter.global/app/) and registering with the code: DontStopWork

👉 We are offering additional free demos and onboarding sessions - you can sign up via the the banner on the top of the website.

Additionally, if you need help evaluating Acter or onboarding your organization, just email us at community@acter.global.

Feel free to share this with any activists, colleagues and organizations affected that might benefit from these services.

We will be also resuming our Acter Newsletter soon. To stay up on developments and news, you can subscribe to us on the bottom of the page.
